History & Mission

Salzburg College follows the vision of making international education programs in Salzburg a personalized, intercultural immersion and growth experience by offering a setting for an open exchange of ideas and culture.

Mission/Vision

Salzburg College facilitates intercultural learning not just on an academic, but on a personal and professional level as well, by encouraging its students to understand and utilize cultural diversity through competence.

Salzburg College aims at teaching students to think critically in a global world gaining academic as well as professional skills and skills for life. Academic excellence is our prerequisite.

History

Salzburg College was founded as a study abroad program for Illinois State University and Northern Illinois University by Dr. Ina Stegen in 1970 and started out with a classical European Studies Program of liberal arts courses.

In 1975 a Photography and Studio Art program was added to the existing courses.

Around 1985 two new areas of study - Business and Communication - expanded the curriculum. Soon thereafter, international internships were introduced to allow an even greater immersion into Austrian-European culture.

2013 marked a new milestone for Salzburg College with the decision to collaborate with the Intercultural College of the University of Salzburg in offering its first degree programs in the field of Intercultural Studies.

In 2018 the first A.A. and B.S. programs commenced on site in Salzburg.
